Sweet Rock Farm is a family-run, diversified farm that grows seeds, provides vegetables and fruits for the local markets, and keeps a small herd of sheep. We also have a gentle, loving horse called Archie and we board a buddy of his, Donny.
Our priority is to grow the best quality food possible, and to that end, we don’t use any synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. In fact, everything is fertilized from compost made on the farm from our sheep and horse manures. We aren’t yet certified organic, but we have started the transition process and will be in the next couple of years.
Sal became a seed grower more than fifteen years ago when he noticed that some varieties of seed that he enjoyed growing stopped being available for sale; and at the same time, large seed companies were (and still are) selling more hybrids and less open-pollinated strains. He has been selling commercially for five years.
